In nine small groups, the students had to rescue and care for an "accident patient" - represented by an AmbuMan - in a scenario that was individually devised for each group. After initial treatment by the first responders, the patient was handed over to the interdisciplinary shock room team, consisting of anaesthetists and surgeons. In the shock room, the AmbuMan was replaced by the "Leonardo" high-fidelity simulator to enable even more realistic care under time pressure.
A particular highlight was the use of the modern debriefing system: three dome cameras as well as directional and boundary microphones enabled seamless observation of the operation. In the subsequent feedback discussion with Prof Dr Mona Spiegel, it was possible to specifically evaluate what went particularly well and where there was potential for improvement.
"The training is valuable preparation for everyday clinical practice and strengthens our students' ability to act in critical situations," emphasises Prof. Dr. Mona Spiegel.
