Kulturprojekt 2025 - Creativity, mindfulness and the freedom to break new ground

10.07.2025, Study:

18 female students, 18 creative projects, 18 perspectives: The elective subject "Cultural Project" at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) was much more than an artistic experiment for the participants in the summer semester of 2025 - it was a journey into themselves, a creative process full of highs, detours, doubts and surprising twists and turns.

18 female students had chosen individual projects on which they could work with a great deal of creative freedom. The choice of topics was as varied as the personalities themselves. Whether photography, illustration, painting, composition or experiments with thread and needle - each participant found her own form of expression to deal with her topic. They were supported and accompanied by Prof Dr Ulrike Gerdiken.

The final evening on 5 June was the emotional highlight of the semester: each artist presented her work in an individually designed exhibition area. The room was filled with colours, stories and impressions - but also with pride, community and genuine curiosity. "It was really great to get involved in a genuine and intensive process - even if my path changed along the way," said one participant in the cultural project. Another participant said: “It was intense, honest and really helped me move forward”

Personal development through cultural competence

The compulsory elective module "Culture Project" has been offered at HNU since the summer semester 2020 and enables students to further develop their skills and abilities in the creative and cultural field.

Under the direction of Professor Dr Ulrike Gerdiken, students have had the freedom to develop their own project ideas and deal with cultural engagement and social contexts: "The experience gained from eight semesters of the Culture Project shows how important creative, interdisciplinary courses are for students. This programme at HNU makes a relevant contribution to students' personal development and can thus become a role model for other universities."
