The appointment process
Would you like to become a professor at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences? Here you can find out how our appointment process works. We will guide you through every step of the way, from the job advertisement right through to taking up your professorship.
1. A professorship is advertised publicly.
We publish details of vacant professorships on our HNU website and in relevant media. This enables us to reach qualified candidates who wish to contribute to our university.
2. Application period
You can apply for your preferred professorship via our HNU application portal. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email.
3. Screening & Assessment
The Appointments Committee carefully reviews all applications in accordance with the statutory requirements (BayHIG) and the requirements of the professorship. Experience has shown that this process takes some time. The aim is to ensure a fair and transparent selection process.
4. Optional introductory meeting
This optional introductory meeting provides an opportunity for us to get to know each other. You will find out more about HNU and have the chance to ask any questions you may have.
5. Invitation to a teaching demonstration
If you are shortlisted, we will invite you to an interview with the appointments committee and to a teaching demonstration. You will receive all the necessary information regarding the next steps.
6. Teaching demonstration
During the teaching demonstration (a seminar-style lesson), you will present your teaching methods and subject knowledge. This will be followed by an interview with the appointments committee.
7. Assessment & Advice
The committee summarises all the results and draws up a shortlist. This forms the basis for the next steps.
8. Interview with the University Executive Board
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a standardised interview with a member of the University Executive Board. The impressions gained will be recorded in a report and taken into account in the subsequent stages of the process.
9. Review by committees
The proposed appointments are reviewed and approved by the relevant university committees.
10. Decision by the University Executive Board
The University Executive Board takes the final decision on the appointment.
11. Job Offer & Acceptance
You will receive a job offer for the professorship and will generally have four weeks in which to accept it. The appointment negotiations will also take place during this period. You will be officially appointed as a professor upon receipt of the certificate.
12. Onboarding at HNU
We look forward to welcoming you as a new colleague. Your faculty office will help you settle in and discuss your teaching duties with you.
