Student group from Venezuela visits HNU

28.05.2025, International:

Intensive intercultural cooperation: On May 14 and 15, 2025, Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) welcomed a group of students from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB) in Caracas, Venezuela. The guests took part in courses on the International Corporate Communication and Media Management (ICCMM) Master's degree program and got to know HNU with a varied program. The visit was part of a two-week trip to Germany, which was supported by a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In addition to the HNU, three other universities were on the program.

Prof. Dr. Stefanie Schöberl, ICCMM programme director, put together a varied programme for the stay: After an official welcome by the HNU Internationalisation Officer, Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer, the Venezuelan students and the accompanying assistant professor Marcela Ojeda were given an insight into the university's facilities - including the Media Centre, the Founders Space and the Usability Lab. During a campus tour, ICCMM students presented their personal favourite places on the HNU campus.

Interactive lectures and intercultural collaboration

The visit focussed on professional and intercultural exchange: in the ‘Methods of Research’ course, two ICCMM students presented the research project they are working on in the current semester. Mixed groups of German and Venezuelan students then worked together on pretests of the questionnaire that had already been developed in order to evaluate its international applicability.

The intercultural teams also worked together intensively in the Strategic International Corporate Communication course. The students developed communication strategies for various use cases and discussed cultural differences between German and Venezuelan corporate communication in particular.

Marcela Ojeda's presentation on corporate social responsibility in Venezuela was a particular highlight. Her contribution offered valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurial activity in a complex social environment.
