Global Responsibility – Local Impact: University Partnerships for the SDGs

17.10.2025, Transfer:

Representatives from Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) and the HNU Africa Institute took part in the DAAD symposium on SDG partnerships in Cape Town, which was held under the theme of "Global Responsibility – Local Impact". The symposium brought together university leaders, researchers and policy makers from around the world to discuss how university partnerships can effectively contribute to sustainable development.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dany Meyer (HNU), Prof. Dr. James Njenga (University of the Western Cape) and Dr. Oluka Pross Nagitta (Uganda Management Institute) represented the Digital Logistics & Entrepreneurship (DLSE) project and presented its successes and ongoing activities within the framework of the DAAD programme on SDG partnerships.

As one of three flagship projects highlighted during the event, DLSE was presented as a best practice example demonstrating how interdisciplinary collaboration, entrepreneurship and digital innovation can strengthen logistics education and promote socio-economic impact across regions. The project builds a bridge between Europe and Africa by integrating digital skills, entrepreneurial thinking and application-oriented research into higher education.

The HNU's Africa Institute plays a central role in this by promoting international cooperation and strengthening the sustainable exchange of knowledge between Germany and African partner institutions. Through initiatives such as DLSE, the institute supports application-oriented research, capacity building and innovation that address real challenges in the fields of logistics and entrepreneurship.

Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the DAAD, the SDG Partnerships programme shows how universities can form global partnerships on an equal footing, thereby transforming scientific cooperation into tangible social impact.
