Streaming and bonding – the compulsory elective module in eSports management at 1337 Camp

10.06.2026, Study:

The compulsory elective module in eSports Management at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) has once again taken its students on an extraordinary practical placement this semester: the 1337 Camp in Waiblingen. What at first glance appears to be a typical gaming trip turned out to be an intensive learning and team-building programme that combines digital skills, strategic thinking and shared experiences.

At the camp, each participant had their own computer, allowing them to try out a wide range of games.

  • Counter-Strike and Rocket League provided plenty of competitive excitement.
  • A TFT tournament required strategic thinking.
  • The TCG Academy brought its own gaming culture to the camp with trading cards.
  • A Mario Kart tournament rounded off the programme with some nostalgic competition.

The variety of games gave the students the opportunity to practise a range of skills – from reaction times and teamwork to tactical planning.

Professional insights through joint streaming projects

Another key focus was on streaming projects, which the students designed and implemented themselves. In doing so, they gained practical insights into the processes, technology and division of roles involved in professional streaming – a central component of modern esports management.

“Bedtime Stories”: A highlight with a touch of humour

Every evening, a special ritual was a source of great excitement: Prof. Dr Harald Gerlach read his own bedtime stories to the students. This charming tradition provided a light-hearted end to intense gaming sessions and gave the camp a personal touch.

More than just a day out: a stronger sense of community

The students returned not only with new experiences, but also as a closer-knit group. They gained a real-life insight into what esports management entails: teamwork, strategic thinking, technical expertise and the ability to carry out projects together.
