Student team move
We at move are a team of students from the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU), which was founded in March 2016. move is committed to more openness, responsibility and commitment at the university.
Our tasks include in particular the conception and coordination of the individual measures, which are primarily carried out on a voluntary basis by students. Under the umbrella of the ZiieL, move also acts as a mediator between students, the university and non-profit organisations in the region.
Projects
"Plastic Free Living" - Workshop
As part of the Sustainability Days 2019, move has organised a workshop on the topic of "Plastic Free Living". Blogger Charlotte Schüler reported on her experiences and gave tips on how to reduce your own plastic consumption. Afterwards, the group itself produced three -plastic-free- products: detergent, toothpaste and deodorant cream.
Clothes exchange at the HNU
For the second time, move organised a clothing exchange at the HNU from 23 - 25 April 2019. Clothes could be handed in for two days. On 25 April, participants were then allowed to choose and take away items of clothing at the move stand. The campaign is designed to motivate people to consume clothes sustainably - to exchange instead of throwing them away.
Blind coffee tasting
For the third time move organised a blind coffee tasting. At the Neu-Ulm district Christmas party on 19 December, four different types of coffee, two of them Fairtrade, could be sampled. Afterwards the participants were allowed to vote for their favourite.
move as a guest of Radio free FM
As part of the "Platform", move presented itself on 18 December at the radio station free FM. During the course of the event, current and future projects, the origins and development of the initiative as well as general university topics were discussed for around one hour.

Initiative evening
On 10 December, an initiative evening was held for the first time at the HNU, to which all student initiatives were invited. The aim was to get to know each other and to talk about future projects.
Mobile phone collection campaign
Since 7 December, a collection box for mobile phones has been available in the library of the HNU. The mobile phones are then professionally recycled and the proceeds donated to educational institutions. The campaign takes place in cooperation with HANDYAKTION BAYERN (opens in a new window) and aims to show the social and ecological effects of mobile phone production.
Sustainability Days 2018 – Dress exchange at the HNU
After a two-day collection of clothes, interested people were able to exchange or take them with them on 16 May at the HNU's clothing exchange. The aim of the campaign is to draw attention to the grievances in the clothing industry and to encourage a rethink towards sustainable consumption.
Fair cosmetics
At the student initiatives' information market on 21 March, move provided information about certificates, ingredients and animal testing for sustainable and fair cosmetics. Product samples were also distributed for self-testing.
Film screening with panel discussion
As part of the organisation of the "Festival contre le racisme", the documentary film "Blut muss fließen" was shown at the Theater Neu-Um in December 2017. This was followed by a discussion with the director of the film.
Sustainability Days 2017
From 15 to 18 May 2017, the topics of electromobility, sustainability in everyday life, plastic-free living and energy consumption were the focus of the HNU Sustainability Days.
Blind coffee tasting at the HNU and at the Neu-Ulm Christmas market
In the summer semester 2017, move sensitised the public to the topic of Fairtrade with a blind coffee tasting in the foyer of the HNU. The campaign was repeated in December 2017 at the Neu-Ulm Christmas market.

Project week of the Realschule
In the 2017 summer semester, HNU students gave the students of the Christoph Probst Realschule valuable tips for improving their presentation skills in a joint project.
Football Tournament
In the summer semester 2016, an HNU employee volunteered to organise a football tournament between students of the HNU and refugees from the Ulm/Neu-Ulm region.
Buddy Programme
For the integration and support of refugees, a buddy programme was established, in which students of the HNU acted as volunteer mentors for refugees at the HNU and beyond in the summer semester 2016 and winter semester 2016/17.
Theme Week "Flight & Asylum"
As a kick-off event, a theme week was held at the HNU at the beginning of the 2016 summer semester. During this week, the students of the HNU were informed about the situation of the refugees, a cinema event and an evening get-together were organised in order to offer the refugees a change of pace and an opportunity for integration.
Refugee Information Day
Even before move became an independent initiative, information events were organised at the HNU where refugees interested in studying could find out about their opportunities at the HNU and in the region.
Promotion
move was funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) from 1 January to 31 December 2016 within the framework of the call for proposals "Welcome - Students get involved for refugees" from funds provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with a student assistant position.
Faces of engagement at the HNU
Many students, staff, professors and lecturers at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences are engaged and active on a voluntary basis. In their free time they support associations, institutions and organisations and thus contribute to the welfare of the community. move has spoken to some of them and would like to introduce the interviews to you in the following.
It gives me a good feeling to have made a small positive contribution.
Anna-Lena – Regional trainer for Lake Constance at the Landesruderverband BWB
Anna-Lena is a student of Business Studies in Healthcare Management (BA) at the HNU. She is a regional trainer for Lake Constance at the Landesruderverband BWB.
What is my task?
I run rowing training courses for children between 11 and 16 years. I also give nutritional coaching - also specifically for competitions. As I am a qualified physiotherapist, I also do yoga and mobility training with the children. I also give lectures on medical topics that interest the children.
Why am I active?
I really enjoy working with children and young people and it's great to be able to get involved outside of work. I also love being out in the fresh air.
What do I learn? / What do I get out of it?
You learn to be responsible, to be a team player and to give lectures. Here, I benefit above all from the feedback, which is much more honest with children.
Prof. Dr. Bernard Wagemann – different institutions throughout Germany, e.g. development or economic cooperation with Africa
Bernard Wagemann taught business management at the HNU for more than 15 years and is still active in the Africa Institute of the HNU despite his retirement. Among other things, he teaches selected Kenyan students in Nairobi how to develop a good implementation concept for a business idea.
In addition, Bernard Wagemann supports various institutions in Germany that are active in development or economic cooperation with Africa.
What is my task?
Most of us only have the usual negative image of Africa spread by the media. I would like to change that through lectures and articles. Africa has many facets and could become more important for us than many people think today.
Why am I active?
Africa is currently both a continent of problems and a continent of opportunities. Less than a tenth of its fertile land is currently being used. With a little more equipment for agricultural work, Africa could not only become self-sufficient, but also supply the pantries of Europe.
What do I learn? / What do I get out of it?
The most I learn from researching my lectures and after these lectures in discussions with often very interesting and experienced people. It is also important for me to do something that I think makes sense.
Melina – Girl Scout "Stamm Eulen" of the BdP (Association of Girl Scouts and Guides)
Melina is studying Information Management and Corporate Communications (IMUK) in her Bachelor's degree. In her spare time she is the deputy tribal leadership of the BdP (Bund der Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfinderinnen) scouts "Stamm Eulen".
What is my job?

Why am I active?
I really enjoy youth work and team activities and you quickly get to know nice people with a similar attitude towards life.
What do I learn? / What do I get out of it?
What it means to work in a team, to plan actions (such as camps) and to realise projects. It always makes me happy to see how much fun the children have with the activities planned for them. In addition, there are always opportunities to take part in larger, Germany-wide or even international activities, of which you always take home many wonderful memories.
Karen Füller – Distribution of community magazines in the Andreas parish in Ludwigsfeld
Karen Füller works in the library of the HNU. There she is responsible for the acquisition of e-books and databases, the maintenance of the research database e-prints, the recruitment and supervision of student assistants and the service desk. For 6 years now, she has been distributing the community magazines of Andreasgemeinde in Ludwigsfeld.
What is my task?
Distribution of the church magazines.
Why am I active?
I was approached directly by the pastor. Commitment is important for us and volunteering can be perfectly combined with a walk with our dog.
What do I learn? / What do I get out of it?
It gives me a good feeling to have made a small positive contribution.
Professor Dr. Julia Kormann – Chairwoman of the Association for the Promotion of the Neu-Ulm Foundation (Förderverein der Bürgerstiftung)
Professor Dr. Julia Kormann is Professor of Corporate Communications, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Sustainability at the HNU. She is the chairwoman of the Verein zur Förderung der Stiftung Neu-Ulm (Friends of the Neu-Ulm Foundation).
What is my task?
We promote civil society involvement for the common good in Neu-Ulm. Therefore our main task is the acquisition of donations. However, it actually means more - for me: "looking with a system".
Why am I active?
Here in Neu-Ulm I have a feeling of being at home. I would like to give something back to the great people in the region.
What do I learn? / What do I get out of it?
I really enjoy my work, I see it as my hobby.
Jens – Voluntary employee at SSV Ulm 1846 football
Jens is a research assistant for sustainability and digital communication at the HNU. He is a volunteer at SSV Ulm 1846 Football in the marketing department.
What is my job?
Everything to do with marketing, e.g. match day support for the upper VIP area, strategic planning and preparation of single match day events, activities on open for sale Sundays etc. but also the co-design and support of marketing and its development.
Why am I active?
I studied sports management at the time for my master's degree and would have liked to work in professional football. However, this did not happen after my Master's degree, but I did not want to give up football altogether and so I will at least keep it as a volunteer.
What do I learn? / What do I get out of it?
I enjoy my work very much and I can help SSV Ulm Fußball to get back on the road to success. I also started volunteering when I came to the city in 2016. This enabled me to directly build up a social environment. In the long term, I get to know many companies, other clubs and managers, which of course can also make it easier for me to start a career after the HNU.
Eva - Animal home Weißenhorn
Eva studies Business Studies at the HNU. In her free time she supports the animal shelter in Weißenhorn.
What is my job?
At the animal shelter, I take on all the tasks that the other employees have. Besides cleaning, picking up animals from the vet, weighing animals, going for a walk, etc. there is of course also cuddling. But you can also just come to pet the cats or go for a walk.
Why am I active?
Once you've been to the shelter and experienced how much the animals enjoy a little attention, you'll want to come back again and again. It's also nice to see them being nurtured, settle in, become more and more curious, show their peculiarities and then find a new home at some point. Caution: You fall in love with every single animal :)
What do I learn? / What do I get out of it?
On the one hand, it's a lot of fun and important to me, on the other hand it's a good balance to my studies.
Michela – Student representation and cultural programme
Michela is a student in the Bachelor of Business Studies in Healthcare Management (BA). She is involved in the student representation and the cultural programme at the HNU.
What is my job?
In the HS cultural programme I am responsible for the organisation and implementation of one or more modules or activities offered to students during the semester. The tasks in the student council are very different. For example, organising and helping with events, regular convention meetings, discussions with lecturers - just to name a few tasks. So the tasks vary greatly and it always depends on what's on the agenda. I also take care of the finances of the StuVer.

What do I learn? / What do I get out of it?
Especially in the StuVer, I was able to meet new people from other study programmes and semesters. I also enjoy organising and moving things and making others happy
