Specific laboratory equipment and facilities

The special feature of the laboratory is that it is equipped with several state-of-the-art eye tracking systems, which record the fixation points of the eyes and their saccades (eye movements) and thus make them analysable. The stationary eye tracker enables the efficient analysis of screen-based applications such as websites or software systems. The evaluation of the recorded data is easier to implement thanks to the beginner-friendly software, especially for students and people who are not specialised in user experience.

Emotion analysis complements the stationary test setup. It analyses the facial expressions of the test subjects and uses an algorithm to calculate their emotions in detail. This allows exclusive insights to be gained into unconscious, unfiltered reactions.

Advanced methods for UX Testing and Usability Analysis

Tablet or smartphone applications can be analysed with smaller eye trackers. Eye tracking glasses from Pupil Labs are used in mobile scenarios outside the laboratory. This opens up a wide range of possibilities for testing different test objects (e.g. games consoles, navigation systems, etc.) in free and informal test situations. Thanks to the lightweight design of the Pupil Labs eye tracking glasses, they can be worn like normal glasses (even by people who already wear glasses) and can therefore be used for eye observation in safety-critical scenarios such as driving a car.

The laboratory is also equipped with a range of technical aids such as remote-controlled, high-resolution ceiling cameras, boundary microphones and several monitors.
