For over ten years, the three-day tour of Baden-Württemberg has offered medical students the opportunity to learn about everyday work in general medical practices. This year, the program opened its doors to PA students. In addition to visits to practices, the program included future topics such as digitization, electronic patient records, and new care models.
Open exchange and new perspectives: HNU student draws positive conclusions
For HNU student Jennifer Schein, participating was a valuable experience. She emphasizes how important open exchange between professional groups is: “Interprofessional collaboration really only works when you talk openly with each other.” She found the medical students' attitude toward the still-young profession of physician assistant particularly positive: “To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised by how interested and open-minded the medical students were toward my still-relatively-new profession.”
She also gained new perspectives on outpatient care. She was impressed by the diversity of the field and the opportunities for creativity in rural areas: “You can really shape things and take on responsibility there, which I hadn't expected at all.
Looking to the future, Jennifer would like to see clear structures that promote exchange between healthcare professions and enable new models of care. Only in this way can the system remain stable in the long term and attractive to young professionals.
