The event was organised by CO2-Regio gUG, the ‘Aktion Zukunft+’ initiative of the Munich and Ebersberg districts, and the German Alpine Club (DAV), and brought together around 60 participants from the worlds of politics, academia, civil society and the region at Brucker Moos near Aßling.
Practical measures for peatland conservation
The focus of the bog participation day was the rewetting of the Brucker Moos. Together with other volunteers, the participants created what is known as an infiltration basin. This is intended to channel water, which currently flows away via drainage ditches, back into the bog, thereby restoring its natural water balance.
The event was accompanied by guided tours, information stands and a panel discussion featuring representatives from academia, the agricultural sector and the project partner organisations.
Experience bog ecology up close
During the guided tours, visitors gained an insight into how bog ecosystems function and learnt about the differences between fens and raised bogs. They were also shown how groundwater levels in the bog are monitored and why raising the water level is crucial for successful restoration. Bogs are among the most important natural carbon sinks and make a significant contribution to climate protection and species conservation.
Positive experiences with the practice partner
The students rate their collaboration with CO2-Regio very highly. Managing Director Jonas Galdirs, in particular, provided the project team with extensive support throughout the research process and offered valuable insights. In addition, the students are conducting interviews with companies that are participating in regional climate protection projects through CO2-Regio.
“The ‘Social Entrepreneurship & Impact’ course provided us with the key concepts and tools needed to assess how organisations achieve measurable social and environmental impact. We learnt how to develop a ‘Theory of Change’, identify key stakeholders and evaluate outcomes and long-term impacts. We also learnt how innovative business models can tackle complex sustainability challenges whilst creating value for various stakeholders,” the students reported.

“Prof. Dr Wild has always been there for us, offering advice and support whenever we need it. We value her guidance just as much as the opportunity to work on practical and socially relevant projects through the HNU,” the students emphasise.
The Master’s programme in ‘Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development’
The Master’s programme in Social Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development at HNU is aimed at students who wish to develop entrepreneurial solutions to environmental and social challenges. The programme combines an academic foundation with practical project work and collaborations with regional organisations. Students learn how sustainable business models are developed, how social impact can be measured, and how innovations can be put into practice.
